003 - The 2023 Glasgow Film Festival Special Part One
Tuesday Mar 14, 2023
Tuesday Mar 14, 2023
The 1st until 12th March marked 2023 Glasgow Film Festival, the 19th edition of the UK's fastest growing film festival. As ever the festival has films for all, from the UK and around the world. In the next few episodes I will review a number of film from the festival starting with this episode (003) with three films.
First up is Kei Ishikawa's slow burning genre shifting film A Man (Aru Otoko) from Japan. A story that starts as a romantic drama between a divorced single mother and a new stranger in town. But tragedy strikes that takes this film into crime procedural thriller and indentity.
The next film takes us slightly into the future with sci-fi drama from France, Tropic (Tropique). Edouard Salier's film of brotherly bond is vigorously tested when disaster strikes changing the fate of the brothers.
Finally from Spain is The Beasts (As Bestas) Rodrigo Sorogoyen's edge of the seat thriller when hatred and xenophobia takes to some dark, unsettling places.
