Monday Jul 31, 2023
Hello and welcome to episode 12 of The Chronicle the official Podcast for The Peoples Movies. After a week of Barbieheimer we go 'horror' with Talk To Me, Frontier(s) and May.
First up is Aussie horror from Danny and Michael Phillipou's Talk To Me. A horror for the social media generation, when a group of teen mess around with an embalmed hand that is like a door to the spirital world. When the new craze gets out of control things start to unravel for one of the group especially and that door into the spirit door may still be opened.
First of 2 Second Sight Films is French extreme Horror, Frontier(s). The 2007 directorial feature debut for Xavier Gens (Gangs Of London, The Divide), follows a group of thieves attempt to escape rioting Paris. They head into the countryside and lie low at a hotel, which just happens to be ran by cannibals who have their 'own' agenda.
Finally Lucky McKee's cult indie comedy horror May (2002) gets the Second Sight Films treatment. This was McKee's debut feature which starred Angela Bettis as May Dove Candy, who is a socially awkward vet assistant. Struggled to connect with people, bullied young because she had a lazy eye, now looking for perfection and a boyfriend. Could that be Adam (Jeremy Sisto) the mechanic who works next door, with the perfect hands?
